Overall aim

The aim of this course is to enable participants to develop a framework to ensure that children with complex health needs, children who require moving and handling and children with behaviour that challenges are safely included in services.

The framework covers developing appropriate policies and procedures, understanding risk management, offering relevant training and support to front-line staff. The course draws on examples of good practice across all three groups of children.

Intended learning outcomes

By the end of this course participants will:

• Understand the balance between rights and risk
• Develop knowledge of policies and processes that need to be in place to include all children
• Identify the barriers and issues for these groups of children in accessing services
• Consider what further action is required in their own practice or setting to include all children

Who should attend?

This course will be of interest to managers and practitioners in all sectors-education, early years, social services and health who are working to develop a framework to ensure that all disabled children are included in services. This course is a combination of 'Including Me' and 'Dignity of Risk' and if staff have attended either of these courses in the past, Including All of Us will serve as a refresher.

About the trainers

Jeanne Carlin has worked as a freelance disability consultant for the past seven years. Her main areas of work are training, research, writing and consultancy work. Jeanne is author of 'Including Me', a practical guide on the inclusion of children with complex health needs in schools and early years settings.

Jan Morrison has been involved in the field of disabled children's services for many years, supporting local authorities and voluntary organisations in their work with disabled children and young people. She is co-author of 'Dignity of Risk', a handbook for professionals working with disabled children and their families and co-trains on NCBs highly successful course 'Risk management issues for disabled children's services'.

Cancellation

All cancellations must be received in writing. In the event of a cancellation, a full refund will be given for over one month's notice, a 50% refund for 1 month to 14 days notice and no refund for less than 14 days notice. Substitutions may be made at any time.

Which ticket should you buy?

Please choose the appropriate ticket type. You should check if your organisation has NCB membership, in which case you can apply for an NCB member's ticket.

As an NCB member or non-member, you should also register as coming from the statutory or the voluntary sector. To qualify as a voluntary sector organisation, you must be a registered charity. When you book, please have your registered charity number ready. This also applies to waiting list places.
